Touch the Moon {welcome}

I started watching the skies when I was a little girl.  I would take my blanket out to the front yard of my parents’ house in the country and look up at that huge field of openness that spread out in front of me. The sky was massive.  I would feel my heart traveling at the speed of curiosity to explore as many stars as I could. They felt so far away, untouchable. Then, when I was nearly flying with awe, my attention would find its way to the Moon, that glowing ball of loveliness.  It was closer and almost seemed to pop off the velvet cloth of night.  I would reach up and trace its outline with my finger, my hand appearing to be just as big as it was. It became my playmate, the light spilling between my fingers, its shape fitting perfectly in my hands.

That is when I learned to Touch the Moon, to open up to its symbolism, rhythms, and wonder. As an artist, self-care enthusiast, and soul+full woman, I have used my connection with the Moon to bring meaning and magic to my life. The Moon has offered a consistent presence on the horizon to help me keep my bearings when I felt lost and has served as a looking glass in which I discovered my own amazing brilliance.

Over the course of the last year, I have been dreaming on a workshop that would help me capture the essence of the wisdom the Moon has to offer us. I think I have finally done it!

I am excited to announce Touch the Moon, an e-course and art-ivity gathering about connecting with your creative, intuitive spirit. Touch the Moon explores lunar rhythms, folklore, and mythology while encouraging you to slow down and go within. Delve into your own personal waxing and waning cycles through art, meditation, and personal symbolism.  Experience dynamic creative art-ivities including journaling, art dolls, touch drawing, and collage. It’s the perfect way to bring a bit of meaning and magic into your life.

Touch the Moon {details}

Touch the Moon will kick off MoonDay, August 27, 2012 (a few days before the Blue Moon) and go through Wednesday, October 31st (Halloween, a few days after October’s full moon).

Join me, Rachél Payne and my six Moon Guides for an event that spans three full moons and two dark moons.

Although we often think of the Moon as having feminine aspects, this Moon belongs to everyone. For that reason,
I welcome both women and men to the class and have chosen both women and men as the Moon Guides.

This celebration of the Moon and its mysteries will be hosted on a private blog. Access to the classroom will be available until the end of the year and a pdf of the course will be offered at the course's end.

Art-ivity Supplies: We will use a variety of supplies. Some will be found objects or things you have laying around the house. One art-ivity will call for water based oil paint (yellow, red, blue), a brayer, and a slick board like bath board, strong glass or plexiglass (roughly 16" X 24")...we can visit about this via email if you have ANY questions (I want this to be easy for you.) Other supplies might include yarn, markers and colored pencils (depending on your preference for journaling) and a blank journal. Again...I want this to be easy, so if the supply list seems daunting, know that all art-ivities are optional and that there will be a lot of flexibility in supplies used.

In addition, I will be available for support from me along the way. This is NOT just a DIY course, it is a shared experience. If you have any questions about the course, I hope you will contact me at rae@creativitytribe.com.
